Dr Sandesh Gulhane has been selected by local members to be the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for East Renfrewshire at the next General Election.
Sandesh – currently the shadow health secretary at Holyrood – said he is “delighted” to have been selected and is determined to win the constituency back from the SNP.
His campaign is backed by local MSP Jackson Carlaw, who says he will be a strong voice for the constituency.
Jackson insists Sandesh is the only candidate who can unseat the SNP and ensure the area has an MP focused on people’s real priorities rather than on trying to break up the UK.
Sandesh, elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2021, said: “I was delighted to be selected by local members to stand in East Renfrewshire at the General Election and I am going to fight hard on their behalf to win the seat back from the SNP.
“Elections have always been close here and one thing is clear: only a vote for the Scottish Conservatives in East Renfrewshire can unseat the warring and scandal-ridden SNP. A vote for anyone else risks letting them back in.
“The people of East Renfrewshire want, and deserve, an MP focused on their real priorities – like the global cost-of-living crisis and public services – rather than one obsessed with pushing for another divisive independence referendum.
“As a practising NHS GP, I understand the priorities of local people and I have a proven track record of working hard on the issues that matter to them.
“In the Scottish Parliament, I have held the SNP-Green Government to account over its shambolic management of our NHS, which people across Scotland rely on every day.”
Local Eastwood MSP Jackson Carlaw said, “I am delighted that Sandesh will contest East Renfrewshire at the General Election and he has my full support in his campaign to represent the constituency in the UK Parliament.
“Sandesh’s career in General Practice demonstrates his unwavering commitment to public service, and his core values would make him an outstanding MP for East Renfrewshire.”
